onitor 57 Checksum out now |
“Grey Ghost” is the second full-length release by Checksum, the California duo of Jeff Palmer (Radar Brothers, Mechanical Pencil) and Greg Freeman (Pell Mell, Palisander). Produced at home over six years, the tracks on Grey Ghost evoke a meditative quality oforganic, electronic murky dub. A love letter to a quiet state of mind where the world of mankind is subsumed by nature. Since the release of their onitor LP in 2000 titled “From the Beginning of the World Until theEnd of Time Throughout the Known Universe”, Checksum have moved into working with a more obscure and low-key sound. The drum kits and bass guitars from before have beenreplaced by sustained rhythm loops and processed samples, but the dub treatments remain. Jeff Palmer is active in the film and commercial music world in Los Angeles, and has also been involved lately with remixes for Dengue Fever. Greg Freeman’s work is still being heard through the airing of Pell Mell tracks on the HBO television series “Six Feet Under”and “Sex and the City”, and has begun creating soundscape work under the moniker Palisander. more on myspace and www.checksummusic.com.
